The garden was designed by a Master Gardener with the focus on low water use, low maintenance, fragrance, and constant bloom. There is a 5 zone computer-controlled watering system using soaker hoses. There are 7 fruit trees as well as many other trees inclucding a Pinon, a Chinese Pistache, a Modesto Ash, a Linden, a Mimosa, a Catalpa, a Desert Willow and several Honey Locusts.

The front garden is a xeric cottage garden with many mediterranean plants - Lavender, Rosemary, Sage, and Thyme - as well as Russian sage, Spanish broom, Penstemons, Agastaches, Columbines, Chocolate flower, Cetranthus, Lambs Ears, and Pinks. The pathways are framed with drifts of Daffodils, Irises ,and Daylilies, traditional flowers that are low water users. On the North side of the house, where it is cooler, are the fruit trees that bloom earliest: the Apricot, two Cherries, and a Plum tree. This location means that there are apricots most every year.

The side garden gets more water. It has 4 Rose bushes, a Fig bush, a Doughnut Peach tree, the Chinese Pistache and Linden trees, and the vegetable area which includes a perennial patch of leeks (usable as green onions). A green wall of vines, Trumpet, Honeysuckle, Grape, and Silver Lace Vine, provide screening from the neighbors.

The back garden has a small grass area as well as Lilac bushes, a Forsythia, Vinca, and Virginia Creeper. Annuals are grown on and around the patio for constant color, Pansies Sept-June and Petunias and Alyssum in the summer. There are many spring bulbs around the patio as well, Daffodils, Virginia bluebells, Hyacinth, and Crocus.

Nob Hill is one of the warmer spots in Albuquerque, our first frost often comes as late as early December. So the Roses are still blooming in October, as are all the August blooming perennials.
